Start with the intended finish
Flat screen printing creates a defined graphic surface. Puff additives produce a raised effect after curing. Artwork detail, garment texture and desired hand feel guide the choice.
Puff is an effect that can be produced through screen printing, so the choice is usually between a flat finish and a raised finish, rather than two unrelated processes. Bring the artwork at its intended print size. Ask whether fine lines, small lettering and closely spaced details will remain clear after curing.
Sample on the actual fabric
Fabric composition, stretch and finishing treatments can change the result. Evaluate the decoration on the intended production fabric.
Review the sample both flat and worn. Check the edge definition, flexibility, colour and feel of the printed area. If the design crosses a seam or sits near a pocket, mark the placement on the garment rather than relying only on a digital mock-up. A sample on a different fabric is not a reliable substitute for checking your chosen material.
Specify placement and care
Provide artwork dimensions, colour references and placement measurements. Agree wash testing and care instructions before approving bulk work.
Keep the approved artwork version and sample reference with your brief. Record the print width, height, colour references and placement measurements. Agree the wash method and the result you will accept before bulk production; do not assume that every raised print has the same care requirements. Our hoodie guide and T-shirt guide cover the garment details to approve alongside decoration.
